For the third year in a row, Mary Boggs (Mid-Atlantic)
represented NACHO for the Third Thirsty Thursday 5K series in Reading, PA. The series spans from April through September
with crowds ranging from 200 to 350 runners on a given night. Mary participated in all of the races that
made up the series this year and was able to lower her 5K personal best by
nearly 90 seconds once the series was done.
A mini-recap of each race is below:
April – 26:04, placed 122nd out of 310;
May – 24:57, placed 117th out of 326, including
the teenage boy that she outkicked to the finish line (no one who walks in the
last half-mile can beat her!)
June – 26:30, placed 103rd out of 211; WICKED HOT
as it was in the upper 80s during the race, and this was at 7pm!
July – 24:45, placed 107th out of 315
August – 24:15, 92nd out of 245; thanks to the
guy who pushed her at the end to set the personal best
September – 24:44, 90th out of 258;
Mary hopes to one of these races actually place in her age
group, but she will need to drop an additional 2 minutes off of her time to do
so. She is still proud of how much faster
her cruising pace is now. But the free beer
and pretzels at the end is always a plus.
