On Saturday, September 22nd, Patrick and Mary competed in a Zombie Mud Run 5K race in their home town of Sinking Spring, PA. The couple should have realized that the race would not end well for them when Mary shared with Patrick on the car ride over that she did not sleep well the night before as she had many ominous Zombie dreams. Nevertheless, Patrick gave Mary a good luck kiss right before the gun went off and wished her luck. After that, he left her behind and never looked back. After he was bitten 3 times (i.e. all 3 of his flag-football flags were taken) by zombies and was 'killed', he realized that maybe he would have been better off facing the dead with a partner in crime. Mary also did not survive the race, and blamed her bright orange NACHO shirt for blowing her cover and making her easy to spot by the zombies. Patrick ran the course in 29:09 and Mary ran it in 31:11.
The couple's lives as new Zombies is going extremely well. Celebrating Festivus early, Zombie Patrick and Zombie Mary successfully competed in multiple Feats of Strength. Patrick won a free tee-shirt by hitting the bell on a High Striker game (by hitting the lever with mallet), and Mary place 2nd in a field of 29 participants in the Oley Valley Community Fair hay bale toss! Mary's toss (26' 9") beat out all of the Berks County ladies, except for Olga Knickerbacker, who is the 7 time reigning champion as she threw it over 27 feet. Mary was awarded a handsome check for her impressive Feat of Strength. By the time of printing of this article, Zombie Mary had not yet decided what to buy with her prize money of $4.50.
