Race(s) Recap: Late August/Early September

Apologies for not having updated race recaps...been a little crazy at NACHO headquarters!

17 August: Jabberwocky 5K

Congrats to Kate B. who rocked the Jabberwocky 5K on a perfect 70 degree day in late August.  She finished 3rd in her age group with a time of 25:11 (8:07 pace!).  Kate has been getting faster and faster all season - well done Kate!

7 September: Run to the Rock Half Marathon: Plymouth MA

Congrats to Tim L. who ran a 1:46 with limited training (living and drinking his way through Europe this summer!) over a very hilly course!  Well done Tim, way to grind it out!

13-14 September: Reach the Beach Relay NH

Derek and 11 close (mostly Scottish) friends ran Reach the Beach NH, from Cannon mountain to Hampton Beach via some serious hills in just over 27 hours from Friday afternoon to Saturday afternoon. His first leg went downhill fast, literally. 3 miles and a 600 foot descent. What goes down must go back up, and leg 2 started with a 300 foot ascent in 0.75 of a mile. The third leg was a nice easy 5.5 miler, with gently rolling hills. All in all a fabulous weekend filled with running, beer, and hilarious jokes (some would say only hilarious because we were delirious!). Already looking forward to next year!

Derek happily crossing off leg #3 from the team van!
15 September: Surftown Half Marathon, Misquamicut RI

Congrats to Jen and Ray who ran a 1:43 and 1:45 (respectively) in the Surftown Half Marathon in scenic southern Rhode Island.  Jen felt great with limited training, and Ray surprised everyone with his strong showing after 3 hours of sleep and a pre-race fuel strategy of 12 hours of continuous drinking the day before.  A true NACHO warrior!

15 September: Harvest Wine Run 3.5M, Newport RI

Kristen N. traveled to RI to enjoy a gorgeous trail run and sample some great wines!  Here's her take on the event; "The Harvest Wine Run at Newport Vineyard was fun this weekend.  It was a 3.5 mile trail run through the vineyard (very pretty), followed by a wine tasting and BBQ dinner.  Wine was good; the lines for the tasting were long but moved quickly and thinned out quickly once the food was available.  I would do it again."   Congrats Kristen!  Sounds like a great event!
