Race(s) Recap: Oct 12-14th

It's marathon and half marathon season!!

Saturday Oct 12th: Hartford Marathon/Half Marathon

We had a contingent of NACHOs racing the Hartford Half Marathon with near perfect running conditions; sunny and mid-50s for weather.  Grant, Kristen and Lisa were racing, and had support of NACHOs Curt and Brad.  Lisa had a nice race, "followed by a nap and a canoli", finishing the course in 1:50.02!  It would appear by their times that Grand and Kristen ran near each other, coming across the line in 2:15 and 2:16, respectively!

Good friend of NACHO, Matty P, raced the marathon...and finished 2nd in 2:21!  At a 5:22 pace, he said he was "lucky" and didn't have the best day...well done in our eyes Matty!  (ps - he finished 3rd last year).  Hear him in his own words.

Kristen and Brad post race!

Grant's finisher medal!
Lisa, her brother, and friends!

Saturday Oct 12th: Chicago Marathon

East coast meets Mid-West for this great event!  Serena traveled west, Lydia traveled east, and Betsy and Dave ran their home course in another event with perfect autumn weather.  Serena broke 4 hours in her FIRST marathon, 3:55.51!!  Betsy was close behind, in 4:02.16 - not bad for someone who "hadn't trained that hard".  Betsy also ran raising money for the MS Society, a charity near and dear to the heart of NACHO! Dr. Dave came in next, in 4:22.29, and Lydia, battling a foot injury throughout, toughed it out and finished in 6:20.10.  As you can see in the photo below, despite being in pain, she had a huge smile on her face!  We're proud of you!!!

"Superwoman" at the end of a long fight, congrats Lydia!
Sunday Oct 13th: BAA Half Marathon, Boston MA

ANOTHER beautiful autumn day, another great event!  Congrats to our runners in the BAA Half Marathon!  A big congrats to Christine for her PR!

Kate, with Distance Medley medal as well!

Christine, psyched for her PR!

Derek, and friend, running in kilts!

Monday Oct 14th: Tufts 10K, Boston MA

"Anything worth doing is worth overdoing".  That's kind of the NACHO slogan, and exactly what Kristen was thinking as she raced the Tufts 10K two days after the Hartford Half Marathon with her sister Kim and friend Maggie!  The three ladies covered the 6.2 miles in a comfortable 1:08.49 - great job!

Race(s) Recap: Oct 5th & 6th

Lots of NACHOs racing in the fall!  Here's a snapshot of the first weekend in Oct!

Saturday Oct 5th: Rick Maypother Memorial 5K, Sterling MA

Congrats to Gina P. who made her return to racing after a long hiatus due to a knee injury!  Gina covered the course in 27:40, and pain free!  Congrats Gina and welcome back!  Next stop: Superhero 5K!

Sunday Oct 6th: Apple Harvest 5M, Southington CT

Congrats to Grant and Kristen who covered the 5 mile course in the pouring rain!  "Apple fritters at the end helped make up for the rain" was the official quote from Grant, we wholeheartedly agree!  Grant earned those fritters running a 46:22, and Kristen a 47:14!  Well done guys!

Sunday Oct 6th: Oktoberfest 5K, Cambridge MA

A big team showing for NACHO, finishing 5th out of 76 teams!  Well done runners, especially given the rain!  All of that beer at the finish line was a nice treat though I'm sure!  A big thanks to Matt who hosted NACHOs back at his house afterwards for nachos, football and beer!  Some photos of our runners can be seen here!

NACHOs post race at Matt's house!

International Race Recap! Basel Switzerland 10K!

NACHO has gone international!!  Vanessa G. represented NACHO in the Basel Run to the Beat 10K in beautiful Basel Switzerland on Sept 22nd.  She covered the hilly course in a strong 59:55, proudly wearing the orange and white!

Congrats Vanessa!

Race Recaps: Sept 21-22nd

21 Sept: Vert Big Bad Wolf 5M, Ipswitch MA

NACHO was a little disorganized putting a team together for this one, but we still had some great individual performances by our runners.  Adam J. and Lauren C. ran on a team called "Critters", and their times of 31:26 (6:18/mile) and 38:44 (7:44/mile) contributed to a team WIN!  Congrats guys!  Derek B. tried to wrangle the NACHOs together to form a team at the last minute and was unsuccessful, but was very successful along the course - running a competitive 41:24 (8:17/mile).  Kristen N. and Brad C. were also able to join in on the fun, and covered the challenging trail course in 53:17 (10:40/mile) and 1:16:22 (15:17/mile).  Great job everyone - I'm sure the post-race beers were wonderful!

22 Sept: Tavern to Tavern 5K, Somerville-Cambridge MA

Run from 1 bar to another?  Sounds like something NACHO can handle!  Meg B. was the lone NACHO to represent the group (what happened there?), but did so in style - setting a PR in 26:02 (8:22/mile).  Great job Meg!!!

22 Sept: Honan 5K, Boston MA

Tim L. did it - he broke that elusive 20 minute mark for the 5K!!!  Congrats Tim; he was flying, covering the 3.1 miles in 19:57!  All of that hard work is paying off!!

Tim - sporting the smile of a new 5K PR!

Race(s) Recap: Late August/Early September

Apologies for not having updated race recaps...been a little crazy at NACHO headquarters!

17 August: Jabberwocky 5K

Congrats to Kate B. who rocked the Jabberwocky 5K on a perfect 70 degree day in late August.  She finished 3rd in her age group with a time of 25:11 (8:07 pace!).  Kate has been getting faster and faster all season - well done Kate!

7 September: Run to the Rock Half Marathon: Plymouth MA

Congrats to Tim L. who ran a 1:46 with limited training (living and drinking his way through Europe this summer!) over a very hilly course!  Well done Tim, way to grind it out!

13-14 September: Reach the Beach Relay NH

Derek and 11 close (mostly Scottish) friends ran Reach the Beach NH, from Cannon mountain to Hampton Beach via some serious hills in just over 27 hours from Friday afternoon to Saturday afternoon. His first leg went downhill fast, literally. 3 miles and a 600 foot descent. What goes down must go back up, and leg 2 started with a 300 foot ascent in 0.75 of a mile. The third leg was a nice easy 5.5 miler, with gently rolling hills. All in all a fabulous weekend filled with running, beer, and hilarious jokes (some would say only hilarious because we were delirious!). Already looking forward to next year!

Derek happily crossing off leg #3 from the team van!
15 September: Surftown Half Marathon, Misquamicut RI

Congrats to Jen and Ray who ran a 1:43 and 1:45 (respectively) in the Surftown Half Marathon in scenic southern Rhode Island.  Jen felt great with limited training, and Ray surprised everyone with his strong showing after 3 hours of sleep and a pre-race fuel strategy of 12 hours of continuous drinking the day before.  A true NACHO warrior!

15 September: Harvest Wine Run 3.5M, Newport RI

Kristen N. traveled to RI to enjoy a gorgeous trail run and sample some great wines!  Here's her take on the event; "The Harvest Wine Run at Newport Vineyard was fun this weekend.  It was a 3.5 mile trail run through the vineyard (very pretty), followed by a wine tasting and BBQ dinner.  Wine was good; the lines for the tasting were long but moved quickly and thinned out quickly once the food was available.  I would do it again."   Congrats Kristen!  Sounds like a great event!

Race(s) Recap: Aug 8th-11th

Thursday Aug 8th: RACE Summer Series #4, Boston MA

Kyndal does it again!  She finished 3rd in the women's race in 22:14 (that's a 7:10/mile pace!).  Adam ran with Team CRC in the co-ed team race and blazed to a 17:19 2nd place overall finish (yeah, that's a 5:35/mile!).  Congrats guys!

Saturday Aug 10th: Zooma Half Marathon, Chicago IL

Kyndal took to the skies and traveled to Chicago to race in this "disorganized" event with a couple of friends...you wouldn't know it by her time, finishing 33rd out of 652 - 1:45:42, and setting a PR by about 8 minutes from her last half marathon in September of 2012!

Saturday Aug 10th: Chilmark 10K, Chilmark MA

This was Kate's 5th consecutive 5K Chilmark Road Race which took place in Chilmark, MA on Martha's Vineyard.  It is a hilly course that draws runners back year after year to race.  Kate tackled the hills with an 8:30 pace finishing in 26.22. Kate's mom, Cammie, and sister, Carrie, also jogged the entire 5k, finishing in 40.10.  This was the first race that both of them have ever run!  Congrats Bryant family!

Sunday Aug 12th: Falmouth Road Race, Falmouth MA

Congrats to the NACHOs who traveled to the Cape for the world famous Falmouth Road Race.  Theresa covered the 7 mile course in 1:05:34, and her sister Colleen in 1:28:37.  Mike C was also there, and completed the course in 1:04:50!  Great job guys!

NEWS!

Big congrats to Anne Z who is running with twins!  TWO little NACHOs on the way!!

Race(s) Recap: Aug 3-4th

Happy August Racing NACHOs!!

Saturday Aug 3rd: Pan Mass Challenge, Wellesley-Bourne MA

Kyndal rode in the Pan-Mass Challenge, 84 miles from Wellesley/Babson College to Bourne / Mass Maritime. Skies were overcast and we had a few drops of rain during the ride, but this turned out to be perfect for keeping her cool - couldn't have asked for a better day. The ride supports Dana-Farber and the Jimmy Fund, and all together was an amazing experience - she can't wait to do it again next year!

Kyndal and her friend Tom!

Sunday Aug 4th: Niantic Bay Sprint Triathlon, Niantic CT

Congrats to Patty, Jen and Ray who swam, biked and ran to a 5th place finish in the Niantic Sprint Triathlon this past weekend!  Patty had her fastest 0.5 mile swim ever in 16:25; Ray completed his first bike event and covered the 12 mile bike in 37:57; and Jen flew over the 5K course in 21:19!  Great job team, and welcome to NACHO Patty!

Sunday Aug 4th: Run 4 Kerri 4 Miler, Matunuck RI

Anne and Brian were happy to attend the Run 4 Kerri, a great little race in Southern RI that attracts some top notch runners (an Olympian won this year!).  Brian regretted his seafood dinner from the night before, and blamed the lobster reduction on his time of 27:28 (6:53/mile).  Anne was really excited to still be running (at 28 weeks pregnant) and covered the distance in 42:12 (10:33/mile).  Both had a great time and were happy to support such a great event!

Race(s) Recap: July 26th-28th

Friday July 26th: Blessing of the Fleet 10 Miler, Narragansett RI

It was a meeting of the NACHO chapters as Mary and Patrick made the 6 hour trek north to race with Brian for the premier RI summer race, the Blessing of the Fleet.  Mary and Patrick were ready and pumped to race the challenging course for the first time, and Brian, in the spirit of Patrick's training philosophy, realized that "he could run 5 miles so he could most definitely run 10"...and was a late entry.  Anne was an enthusiastic cheerleader and photographer and captured some NACHO moments before, during and after the race.  More photos can be found here.

Sunday July 28th: Lowell Sprint Triathlon, Lowell MA

Big congrats to Jon who finished 2nd in his division for the Swim 0.25 Mile, Bike 11 Miles, Run 3 Miles event!  Rocking an orange tri outfit (love it!), Jon was all smiles as he completed the course in 1:01.59.  That breaks down to the swim in 7:36, the bike in 30:33 and the run in 21:20!  Congrats Jon, we're proud of you!

Race(s) Results: July 21st

Mass Ave Mile - Cambridge, MA

You read that right - just 1 mile!  This neat race in Cambridge tests your speed with an all-out sprint, and we found out that Kate B is damn fast!  She covered the distance in a blazing 6:55, not bad for a distance runner!  We're proud of you Kate, you're having a great summer racing season!

Hockomock Y Sprint Triathlon - Wrentham, MA

A big congrats to Liz B. who represented NACHO in 3 sports (!!) finishing 2nd (!!) in her age group at the Hockomock Sprint Tri.  She swam 0.25 miles, biked 9 miles and ran 3.1 miles in a wicked fast 1:05.12!  You rock Liz!

Save the Bay Swim - Jamestown, RI

This year, the Save the Bay swim had a new course and a different theme.  The "sequester swim" did not traverse the Bay from Newport to Jamestown due to government budget cuts, so the 300 swimmers covered the same distance (1.7 miles) in a clockwise triangle.  NACHO swimmers Joe, Casey, Sarah, Brian and Tommy struggled with sighting and strong currents, but all exited the water at the end - we call that a successful swim!

Casey was the first NACHO out of the water, with a fast 53:05.  Sarah was right behind him, finishing in 54:01.  Brian had a great day, finishing under 1 hour for the 1st time and coming in at 57:39!  Joe struggled with the current a bit, but managed a strong 1:08.00.

The team had a great support crew, and everyone enjoyed the ice cream and Dels lemonade at the finish line!  More photos of the weekend can be found here!

Race(s) Recap - July 18th

Marathon Sports 5M - Weston, MA

Congrats to Kate for her 45:49 finish in the hot and hilly Marathon Sports 5 miler!!

Jim Kane 5K - South Boston, MA

A hot night and even hotter performances by Team NACHO!  Led by Adam (for a second race in a row!) NACHO placed 3rd behind BAA and SRR in a very competitive team field of 28 teams in the 25th Annual Jim Kane Sugarbowl race.  Temps were well into the 90s and humidity was almost 100% as this crew raced along the waterfront in South Boston.  Katy raced THROUGH the finish line and jumped immediately in the bay!  The hashtag #machonacho was born with the addition of some Yasso sunglasses and mega muscles, and Matt was the biggest winner of them all, walking away with free bagels for a YEAR from Panera!  He found the golden ticket!  Photos of the night can be found here.

Race(s) Recap: July 11th-14th

Another week, another set of results from the NACHOs!

Thursday July 11th: RACE 5K #3, Cambridge MA

We had another group of NACHOs compete in the Thursday summer series races.  There are two options for racing the 5K distance; the co-ed race and the women's only race.  Serena raced with the ladies and finished on the podium; finishing 3rd in 22:47!  CONGRATS!  Also running in the women's race we had Gretchen, who finished 14th in 26:18!  Strong showing ladies! In the co-ed race, we had Adam finishing 4th (17:39), and Kevin 161st (29:56)!

Saturday July 13th: RI Aquatic Hall of Fame 1.2M Swim, Portsmouth RI

In the largest NACHO swim event EVER, we had FIVE NACHOs compete in smooth waters off of the coast of RI.  Sarah was the first NACHO out of the water in 32:27, a fantastic showing for her first NACHO event!  Coming in after her was Casey in 35:09, cruising after his warm up swim last weekend in the Narrow River.  A very happy birthday to Kim who finished 3rd in her division, finishing in 37:07!  Joe had another strong outing, finishing the Save the Bay warmup in 39 flat.  And rounding out the group was Brian in 40:03, saving his energy for next week's big event!

Sunday July 14th: VERT 2.4M Trail Race, Stoneham MA

NACHO for the win!!  NACHO for the win!!  NACHO placed 1st out of 41 competitive teams in the 2nd annual VERT Trail Race!  A huge group of runners for this incredibly fun event, with a lot of first time NACHOs in the mix!  Some photos of the epic post race celebration can be seen here!

Race(s) Recap: June 29th - July 4th

Saturday June 29th: Hyde Park Blast 4M, Cincinnati OH

Kyndal took the NACHO pride to the homeland, and she let us know how she ran with an email update;

"I'm back in KY for the week, but still trying to run. The fam did a little 4 miler this morning. I was supposed to be doing a 13 mile training run today, for my half marathon in August, so I ended up running over to the race. I thought I could find a perfect 9 mile route, but it turned out to be 10.5, oh well. Nevertheless, ran with one of my sisters friends, a junior in high school, and we finished the race in 32:18. It was a lot of fun!"

Great job!  Way to run hard on the road!

Sunday June 30th: City Sports "Back in the Day" 10K, Boston MA

Kate, you were "totally rad" rocking the 80s getup for the "Back in the Day" 10K!  In the HOT weather, Kate did great, finishing the course in 58:56!

Thursday July 4th: Camires 4M, Wakefield RI

Kudos to Brian for braving the heat and sneaking in a holiday speed workout.  Facing some incredibly humid conditions, he finished the course in 27:55, sneaking under a 7 min mile!

Thursday July 4th: Friends on the 4th 5K, Winthrop ME

Mary and Patrick vacationed in Maine and found a way to race while enjoying their time away from PA!  Patrick cruised to a 7th place AG finish in 21:52, with Mary ALSO finishing 7th in HER age group in 24:50!  Well done!  Patrick's Dad Raymond also ran, finishing in 33:10!  Great job Boggs family!!!

Race(s) Recap: June 21st-23rd

Another busy week for the NACHOs all over the USA!

Friday June 21st: Summer Solstice 5M, Newton NJ

Tom's rundown of the event, which he completed in 46 minutes!

"well, this course kicked my ass something fierce! lots of climbing up and down intense rocky hills. i started out reasonably fresh, and felt totally spent by the first mile. i'd run the course three years ago, in 42ish, so i knew what i was in for. and so i was pretty much holding myself back through out the race. i didn't want to end up halfway up the big hill, with nothing in my tank. the downside is, i never was able to get my mind into race mode - only survival mode. not that i think a more keen mental approach would have helped - indeed, had i pushed any harder earlier in the race, i surely would have been done for in the 4th mile. it didn't help that the promised water stop at 2-miles in never materialized. so cruel!
i'll be back here in november, for a trail half marathon, and this course will be the final five miles of that race. hoo boy.
i've got some work to do."

Tom looking psyched before the race!

Saturday June 22nd: Narrow River Turnaround 1M Swim, North Kingstown RI

Brian, Joe and Casey took to the water for the first open swim race of the NACHO season!  Casey was brave enough to tackle the course without a wetsuit, and finished first in an impressive time of 28:57.  Not bad for zero training!  Brian and Joe battled it out for 2nd place NACHO, with Joe lunging for the Popsicle stick a little faster than Brian, with their times 33:23 and 33:24.  Joe's analytical analysis of his and Brian's swim, looking back at last year's results;

"You got 5% faster and I got 1% slower than last year.  If we both stay healthy and in shape, I do not expect to cross the finish line ahead of you in the future. Looking at the middle 80% of the field, the average time in 2012 was 30:30 and in 2013 was 30:35 (0.3% slower). Of the 123 swimmers, I could match 37 names for both years. They were 0.6% slower in 2013 than 2012.

You are getting better, I am getting older."

Well done gentlemen!

Casey, Brian and Joe ready to hit the water!

Sunday June 23rd: NY Giants Run for Champions 5K, East Rutherford NJ

Tom was at it again, crushing his second race of the weekend in 24 minutes!

"it was a hot morning for a parking lot 5k. and my quads were still very very sore from friday's 5-mile trail race. but somehow i managed a fairly respectable 5k today. managed to do a few gear-changes and passing maneuvers, but wasn't quite into race-mode. it'll come back, i'm certain. 51/299 M35-39, 320/2993 overall
after the race, tommy ran a 60-yd kids race, and had a lot of fun."

Very determined to run!

Sunday June 23rd: BAA 10K, Boston MA

Lots of NACHOs raced this great event which honored all affected by the Boston Marathon bombings this year.  Some great performances on a hot muggy day!

Meghan B and friend post race!
Mike and friends post race!
Derek's view post race, enjoying the sunshine!

Recent Results - much delayed!

Sorry NACHOs...Pen has been traveling and his internet has been wacky at his house, so the results took awhile to compile!  We know you've been eagerly awaiting them...!

Congrats to Jon for taking the Triple Crown award in the Goodtimes Race Series in Lowell MA this year!  What is the triple crown?  According to his proud wife Kerri, "setting a personal record, completing all races in the series, and finishing 3rd in his age group"!  Congrats Jon!

Jon with his swag

June 6th: Summer Race Series #2, Cambridge MA

Team NACHO finished 9th out of a very competitive 12 team field, with strong performances from all of their runners; Ray, Kyndal, Serena, Christine, Kevin and Meghan.  Congrats on Kyndal for her new 5K PR, going under 7 minute pace!  Blazin' fast!

June 8th: Walpole Village 5K, Walpole MA

Kyndal kept the fast streak alive with ANOTHER incredible 5K performance, finishing this race in 22 flat, good enough for 3rd place female overall!!  We're so proud of you, Kyndal!

June 8th: Camp Pendleton Mud Run 10K, Camp Pendleton CA

Jason, Casey, Brian and Anne joined some of their great friends to raise money for the Fleisher Foundation and run through the mud for "The World Famous Mud Run" at the Camp Pendleton Marine base in southern California.  Anne caught the team in action with her "super camera" as they battled fire hoses, ran up mountainsides, climbed over walls, sloshed through mud and crawled through obstacles.  Brian had a great day, finishing 10th/241 in his age group and 41st man overall.  Jason also finished 10th/259 in his age group and 97th overall.  Not bad for close to 3100 men running!  Not sure how Casey did (couldn't find his results), but he got muddy just like the rest of the crew!  Sarah and Jay traveled from NY, and finished 44th and 25th in their age groups, respectively!  Amy got muddy with her entire family (Howie, Ayla and Jayden) and cruised to a 74th place finish in her age group!  Well done everyone!  And what event is complete without fast cars?  Ask Jason Ha. all about it!

Brian, Jason and Sarah letting the mud sink in!
June 15th: Mount Washington Road Race, Pinkham Notch NH

Big congrats to Xiao who bravely climbed the "rock pile", beating over half the field and finishing under 2 hours!  Photos can be found here, but it's tough to appreciate HOW STEEP the grade is of the mountain!  Some stats on the "course"...
  • Elevation gain 4727 ft. (1440.79 meters)
  • Length 7.6 miles (12.23 kilometers)
  • Grade Avg. 12%, extended 18%, final 100 yards 22%
  • Road Surface 87% paved, 13% packed gravel
Pretty bad ass, Xiao.  We're proud of you!  Well done representing NACHO!

June 16th: Battle of Bunker Hill 8K, Charlestown MA

Well done Chris for competing in this tough course through Charlestown!  Chris ran a competitive 40:18, averaging just over an 8 min mile!  Great job!!

Chris (in orange, what else?!) working hard!

June 16th: Ribfest 5M, Merrimack NH

Congrats to the MANY NACHOs (!!) who rocked out at the Ribfest (yum!) 5 miler!  Jon ran an impressive 30:48 to finish 12th overall!  Gretchen continued her fast streak finishing in 43:47, and Kerri, who has been superwoman running with a hip injury, wasn't slowed at all, finishing in 46:18!  Kevin crossed the tape in 49:52, and his Mom Sherri wasn't far behind, in 49:58!  Looks like other family members ran as well, great job everyone!

The Will family celebrating fathers day with a race and ribs!
